The TwinThread application can be connected to Tableau Desktop to provide more advance reporting capability on the data contained within the TwinThread application. These steps explain how to set up a new connection and also how to update an existing connection. The Security Key provided by TwinThread to create the connection expires after 30 days and has to be renewed using the update process.

Creating a New Connection

  1. In the TwinThread application, go to your User Account page. You can find this under the drop down menu under your initials in the top right corner of the TwinThread application.

  2. In the Account page, find the Security Keys section and use the copy icon at the end of the Data URL section to copy the Data URL. Don't confuse the Data URL with the Security Key.

  3. Login or Launch (desktop) the Tableau application.

  4. On the left hand side in the Connect pane, navigate to the "To a Server" section and select OData. A dialog will pop up in the center of the screen.

  5. In the Server field, paste the Data URL previously copied.

  6. Set Authentication to Username and Password.

  7. The Username will be the email used to set up your TwinThread account.

  8. You must generate a new password for this OData feed. Return to the Security Keys section of the User Account page in the TwinThread application. Click the Generate New Key button and copy the new key to the clipboard using the copy icon.

  9. Navigate back to Tableau and paste the security key in the password field of the OData dialog. Then click Sign in.

  10. Your connection will be created and you will have the option to pull from any datasets created on your organization.

Updating an Existing Connection

  1. To update an existing OData connection, navigate to the Tableau workbook that utilizes the connection previously created as its data source.

  2. Click on the Data Source tab in the lower left hand corner of the workbook.

  3. A dialog will pop up with only the password field incomplete. The Server, Authentication, and Username fields will be filled in already.

  4. In order for the connection to update, you must generate a new password for this OData feed. Return to the Security Keys section of the User Account page in the TwinThread application. Click the Generate New Key button and copy the new key to the clipboard using the copy icon.

  5. Navigate back to Tableau and paste the security key in the password field of the OData dialog. Then click Sign in.

  6. By signing in with a newly generated password, your connection will be updated.

  7. On the Data Source tab, there is also a Refresh Data Source button in the top left, but this can only be used to update the data that has already been "dragged and dropped" into the workbook for analysis.
